3 Ways to Be Productive Without Getting Overwhelmed

Are you someone who often finds they have a lot to do and not much time to do it?

Most of us can feel overwhelmed at times and the common reaction is to hide from the stress. We’ll avoid starting our tasks in the hope they’ll go away. But as we all know they don’t, and, more tasks just pile up.

So how can we be productive without that overwhelming feeling swallowing us?

In this article, we’re going to give you some easy tips on how you can stay productive, even with a workload mountain.

Read on for more information.

1. The Pomodoro Technique #

This may sound bizarre, especially when you realize Pomodoro is the Italian word for tomato, but stay with us.

In the 1980s, Francesco Cirillo developed the Pomodoro technique in order to be more productive. It has since gone on to be used by people all over the world and is a very effective technique for working and studying.

It’s a very simple technique and all you need is a timer. Simply set the timer to 25 minutes and then get to work on a task. During this 25 minutes, you can only focus on the task and no outside distractions. When the timer goes off, you take a 3-5 minute break. Repeat this for 4-6 times before taking a much longer break.

If you don’t like 25-minute segments, then you can easily start with shorter or longer periods. But we recommend you don’t go too long as you may burn out quickly.

2. Write a To-Do List #

Writing things down is a very effective way of being productive. This is because by writing tasks down, you end up structuring and organizing them.

When we keep everything in our heads, that’s when we feel overwhelmed and often quit. Instead, use a notepad or an organizer app that can help you structure your workload.

You’ll find that by ticking things off as you complete them, you’ll start to feel less stressed and that you’ve accomplished something.

3. Have a Change of Scenery #

Sitting in a chair for several hours isn’t particularly fun and it’s likely to make you feel tired.

You should try and take regular breaks and get a change of scenery. This may be just making a coffee or even going for a short walk and getting some fresh air. Having a change of scenery will re-focus your mind and make you feel more energetic. You’ll then be able to smash the tasks ahead.

You may also wish to try some breathing techniques as this can help lower stress hormones.
